You will be required to develop profitable commercial business through technical assessment of individual risk and schemes involving the negotiation and processing of suitable terms for new business, change in risk, claims and renewals.
Responsibilities:
Underwrite new and existing business in accordance with personal underwriting authority
Complete quote, policy, referral and survey report work
Consider and act on the underwriting implications of claims to minimise the potential for repetition of loss
Accurately respond to queries raised on policies and products by brokers, surveyors and claims departments
Respond effectively to queries raised by the accounts department and credit controllers
Participate in regular meetings to provide personal feedback on results to maximise underwriting delivery, scheme development and team effectiveness
Handle technical referrals from less experienced colleagues in order that business can be dealt with effectively within correct authority levels and in doing so coaching colleagues to broaden their understanding and ability.
Skills:
Skilful communicator, negotiator and relationship builder
Numerical proficiency sufficient to deal with underwriting, scheme analysis and reporting data
Underwriting experience in property, pecuniary and liability classes of insurance equally, and for all relevant classes across a variety of products and trades
The ability to assess technical risk and make decisions within their authority
